Tips and Tricks for Booking Flights
Planning a trip to Costa Blanca? Learn how to organize your flight for an affordable, convenient, and hassle-free journey. Here are some tips to help you choose the right airport, book tickets, and rent a car.
Airports in Costa Blanca
Alicante Airport
Alicante Airport is the closest international airport serving Orihuela-Costa. Located just 49 km away from Costa Blanca apartments, it’s only about a 45-minute drive. This makes it the perfect choice if you want to minimize travel time.
Valencia Airport
Another option is Valencia Airport, located approximately 225 km from Orihuela-Costa. Driving from the airport takes around 2 hours and 10 minutes. Despite the longer distance, it might be a good choice if you find better prices or more convenient flight schedules.
Murcia Airport
A lesser-known but equally convenient option is Murcia Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional Región de Murcia). Situated about 45 km from Orihuela-Costa, it’s only a 40-minute drive. This airport primarily serves low-cost airlines like Ryanair and can be a great choice for budget-conscious travelers.
Car Rental
We highly recommend renting a car at the airport. Off-season, you can rent a car for around 300 PLN per week or even 300 PLN for 10 days. Having your own vehicle provides comfort and freedom to explore Costa Blanca.
How to Find Cheap Flights
Choosing a Booking Site
The best site to search for flights is Kayak. However, it’s worth checking different language versions of the site, such as kayak.de, kayak.co.uk, or kayak.it. Sometimes, you can find cheaper tickets for the same flights, especially during Polish long weekends.
Incognito Mode
When searching for flight tickets, use your browser’s incognito mode. Airline algorithms may increase prices if you repeatedly search for the same connections. This way, you can avoid unnecessary costs.
Direct Flights
From cities like Gdańsk, Wrocław, Poznań, or Warsaw, you can find direct flights to Costa Blanca operated by Ryanair and WizzAir. These flights take approximately 3 hours and 40 minutes to 4 hours, making them a very convenient choice.
Purchasing Baggage
If you plan to bring larger luggage, it’s best to purchase it when booking your ticket. The cost of checked baggage (up to 20 kg) for a round trip typically ranges from 200-400 PLN, while carry-on luggage (up to 10 kg) costs about half that. Keep an eye out for promotions to save even more.
Sports Equipment and Extra Accessories
Strollers, surfboards, skis, or golf clubs usually require an additional fee. Smart packing of these items into standard checked baggage may help you avoid extra costs.
Airlines and Layovers
If you choose airlines other than low-cost carriers, baggage is often included in the ticket price. However, you may have to deal with layovers, which could extend your travel time.
When planning your trip to Costa Blanca, consider both major airports – Alicante and Valencia – as well as the smaller but convenient Murcia Airport. Your choice will depend on ticket prices and flight schedules. Remember to rent a car to enjoy the comfort of traveling around the region. Use booking sites in different languages, search in incognito mode, and plan your baggage purchase in advance to avoid extra costs.
